| Background One of Anelyse's key characteristics is her absolute devotion to animals. When we met in 2004 she lived in a house with 3 dogs and 7 cats - all adopted from the street or shelters. Since it is complicated to have that amount of animals in an apartment we agreed that 2 dogs and 3 cats would be the limit once moving together in Recife. She did the impossible and with the help of friends and the internet, she managed to place 4 cats and 1 dog in excellent new homes. In addition, the 2 remaining dogs could not really live together with the cats in an apartment on the 20th floor so we decided to organize a little house for them to live in together with our "femme de menage" - Tereza. This worked out fine until one of Tereza's cats got pregnant and had 4 kittens. She decided to get rid of 2 of them so - again - the rescue team got into action with the result that we now have 5 cats in the apartment and 2 dogs in the house. Prior to the move to Florianopolis, the dog contingent was increased to 3 with the acquisition of the rather mistreated Paloma from the neighbouring piece of land in Recife. The 3 dogs now live in a nice, new doghouse (see pics below) at Regina's house (Anelyse's sister) 15 min away from our apartment. |
